# Slide timing planner

Give it your slot length and your sections; get the time for every slide and a run sheet to print and keep by the laptop.

## How the time is split

Q&A and spare time come off the top of the slot. Sections with fixed minutes, such as a live demo or a video, keep exactly what you give them. Whatever is left is shared between the other sections in proportion to their slide counts, so a section with four slides gets twice the time of one with two. Times are rounded to whole seconds and always add up to the slot.

The run sheet shows when each part should begin, as time from your first word and, if you give a start time, as a clock time. Tick List every slide to add a checkpoint for each slide: the moment it should be done. The words column estimates how much script fits each section at your pace, handy when you write parts out for the [teleprompter](https://ripplebrief.buzz/).

## One slide a minute?

A minute a slide is a familiar rule of thumb, but slides are not equal: a title can take ten seconds and a dense diagram five minutes. Treat the per-slide figure as a check, not a target. Under about 20 seconds a slide, the audience may barely see each one; several minutes on one slide can mean it is doing too much.

## Rehearse against the sheet

Run through the talk with the [speech timer](https://ripplebrief.buzz/speech-timer/) and note where you really are at each section start. Then move time between sections with fixed minutes until the plan matches what you can deliver.

## Questions

**How many slides do I need for a 20-minute talk?**

There is no right number; it depends on how much each slide does. Plan the time first, then use the per-slide figures to see whether a section is crowded or thin.

**Is Q&A included in the slot length?**

Yes. Enter the whole slot you have been given. The planner takes off the Q&A and spare time first and shares only what is left between your sections.

**Is my plan saved?**

It is kept in this browser's local storage, so it is still here when you come back on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Clear all removes it.

**How do I print only the run sheet?**

Press Print run sheet. The print layout leaves out the rest of the page, the form and the buttons, and prints the table in black on white.
